Chit Chat With Vikram (Aparichitudu)

Fourteen months of grueling schedule has paid Vikram rich dividends. His latest flick 'Aparichitudu' has got a good response all over. Overwhelmed by the response, he shared his thoughts and happiness with media today at Taj Residency in Hyderabad.

Response for the film

Everyone is congratulating me on the success. For the first time, my film was released in four south Indian states simultaneously. The film was released with 425 prints. And everywhere, the film has got a good response.

Message pertaining to society

Actually Dhool (Veede in Telugu) too had that orientation. But Aparichitudu speaks on a large-scale. The good thing about Aparichitudu, the message is not told in rhetoric form nor has preachy aspect. While most films take on the society and politics, we questioned the common citizen's apathy. We took issues that seem very petty to give larger message.

Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD)

Shankar sir explained it in such a way that any common man can easily understand. When the doctor explains the MPD syndromes, he gives a drunkard as an example which can be understood by all. Shankar sir adds commercial glitz to issue-related themes and then packages it for the common man. Even my eleven-year-old daughter liked it a lot.

Body language

I can do anything for the character I play. I can build up body or end up starving. I just do whatever the role demands. I thought the innocent Ramanujam needs a paunch like every commoner does have. And as flamboyant model Remo, I built up muscles like Salman and John Abraham. I did exercises. I used to take dumbbells even on the sets. Nothing was superficial or computer graphics. Everything was real.

First half was slow

Yes it is. But we need to look at the film comprehensively. We wanted to build up the Ramanujam character in a slow way so that once the MPD angle is revealed in the second half, audience will be in awe. It was deliberate.

Ramu, Remo and Aparichitudu

I really loved the character of Remo. For that I had almost 25 different hairstyles. I have grown long hair and everyday at my home, we used to have fight among my wife, daughter and me for 'rubber bands'. When I cut off the long hair after the film released, my folks were disappointed.

Songs are quite ordinary

We wanted to put slow and classical mode songs in the first and then slowly go for modern style in tune with the character. So we put the song Kumari Kumari, in the very first. Even in that song. if you see I played clumsy and looked camera shy because the Ramanujam is a very timid man to express love.

Film was first offered to Rajnikant

Shankar first met Rajnikant sir and narrated the storyline. But Rajni sir thought it was not in tune with his image, then Shankar altered the storyline and came to me.

Straight Telugu film

Actually, I wanted to announce my first straight Telugu film now but could not do it. I will announce the date now. My first Telugu film will be launched in March 2006. I will not reveal who the producer and the director are but all I can say is that the film is going to be directed by one of the topmost directors in Telugu.

Mazaa

Mazaa will be released in Telugu also with the same title. The film will be released simultaneously in both Tamil and Telugu at the time of Diwali. This film is a remake of Mammootty’s Malayalam film. This film is an entertainer with village backdrop. It is about a father and his two sons. The profession of this family is robbing. The storyline is what happens if one wants to leave that profession and become a good citizen. This film is a comedy entertainer.

Why a regular commercial film after Aparichitudu?

Heroes like Kamal Hassan and Rajnikant took the route of different cinema and art films. Heroes like Rajnikant and MGR followed the route of masses and did big commercial mass films. I want to do the both follow my own route of all round cinema. That is the reason why I deliberately chosen to do Mazaa after Aparichitudu.
