Director Sobhan Is No More

SobhanDirector Sobhan (of Bobby, Varsham and Chanti fame), who was 40 years old, died of heart attack this evening. He suffered heart attack at actress Bhoomika's residence.

Bhoomika and her husband Bharat Thakur took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The body of Sobhan was later shifted to the Image Hospital mortuary in Madhapur, Hyderabad.

Profile: Sobhan had worked as a co-director with Ramgopal Varma for Prema Katha and Daud. He was a close associate of K. Raghavendra Rao and Krishna Vamshi. He penned dialogues for Krishna Vamshi's Murari before turning director with Bobby [Maheshbabu, Aarti Agarwal]. MS Raju's Varsham, starring Prabhas and Trisha, gave him the big break. Chanti [Raviteja, Charmme, Anjali] was his last film and was a box-office failure. He also acted in a comic role as Raviteja's buddy in Oka Raju Oka Rani, directed by Yogi. He is the younger brother of noted comedian Lakshmipathi. Korukunda in East Godavari district is his hometown.

Directors' Association President Sagar has expressed shock and grief over the sudden death of the film director. Prabhas, Uttej, Nagababu, Suneel and Tammareddy Bharadwaja were among those who paid tributes.
