Mushy and Melodious
APK | July 1, 2006
Rating: ***.75 (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)
We expect a century from Tendulkar all the time, no less. And we expect the best music from MM Keeravani, movie after movie. But can it happen, is that possible? After slightly disappointing fare (Vikramarkudu), we have our MM Kreem back, with the cream of his collections.
Vastaava Naato The opening song of this album introduces us to the general feel of the album-fun, casual and melodious. This is a happy song which kind of takes us into the story through the lyrics and for a change, too many cooks do not always spoil the broth; there are three writers for this conversational song (MM Keeravani, Gangaraju, K. Shiva Shakti Datta) ***.75
The Largest Circulated Remember 'Ganga A/C' from 'Sye'? Track 'The Largest Circulated' belongs to a similar genre as far as rendition of the song in a narration mode is concerned.
This whole song is just read out rhythmically from a page in Swati Magazine. This song is so much fun to listen to, where 'bose' is trying to read Telugu and everyone is clapping and encouraging him. Pretty cool-MM Keeravani is like a magician. He swirls and taps his magic wand to some lyrics, and they form a lovely tune by themselves, but only when he wants to. This song, and this entire album, he clearly had his wand on hand. ***.75
Tirupathi Penchina Meesam This is a short little song. You'll enjoy this song if you fit in the age group of 3 to 8. Or if you want to go back to fit in that group. ***
Entho Dooram Possibly the best song of the lot. Bombay Jaya Shri (the same voice behind the unforgettable 'Zara Zara' from RHTDM) with K. Shiva Shakti Dutta's meaningful lyrics make the brief vocal renderings amazing... "Entho duram egaraledu le, rekala tho pakshi...". And there's more. MM Keeravani steps in to actually make us visualize the depth of the lyrics with his music, which feels like a bird soaring high up in the sky. ****
Maatalto Swaraale This is another lovely number with Suddala Ashok Teja's trademark simple but fascinating word play, and Pranavi's effortlessly sweet vocals. A totally hummable song. ****
Ammaga Korukuntunna Aww...Mushy! And if you are not the mushy kinds, just skip this song. It's a 'Happy Birthday' number, and the tune has been used, re-used and re-cycled over and over again. Fast forward, unless you are pregnant or your kid's birthday is on the way. ***
Theme Music This piece has the 'Entho Dooram' music-it is one of those rare numbers which at the same time is peaceful and melancholy. Best enjoyed with eyes closed. *****
Evaremaina Anani Vinaku This is again a continued version of 'Entho Dooram'-a few words from a mother to her son. It's pep-talk time. ***.75
Dot Dash MM Keeravani in his charmingly innocent (and versatile) voice renders this absolute wonder of a... can we call it a song? The whole piece just goes 'Dot dash dot dash dot dot dash dash...' enough already? But this will surely put a smile on one's face-a really cute number. ****
Jana Gana Mana Attention! ?????
And the verdict is.. A couple of cute songs, two lovely numbers and one really good piece of instrumental music make this album worth listening to. It does get a little too cute and a little too mushy here and there. But MM Keeravani is in his form, the only music director who can give classy unforgettable melodies like 'Awaarapan Banjarapan' (Jism) and at the same time move the masses to a frenzy with 'Nuvvu Whistleste' (Simhadri).
The expectations from each album of his are sky high, and why not? He's one of the best we've got, we've ever had in fact, and he proves his versatility yet again with 'Amma Cheppindi'.
