All That Glitters Is Not Gold

APK | April 26, 2006

Rating: *** (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)

You cannot expect wonders every time, for you will be disappointed. This album might not be great shakes in entirety, but it has two very good songs which make it stand on its own and please the masses. Chances are, those two songs might be enough to sell the music and draw in the crowds. It is a conservative album, and fine, although this time Vidyasagar and even Pawan Kalyan don't offer anything new.

Jai Shambo Chiranjeevi's 'Jai Chiranjeeva' had 'Jai Jai Ganesha,' younger bro Pawan's Bangaram has 'Jai Shambo'. Is it a mere coincidence? Or is it like the Annayya-Tammudu, Shankar Dada MBBS-Gudumba Shankar sort of connection between the siblings movies? Either ways, this song doesn't offer anything new, but Pawan's fans will enjoy it while it lasts. This song grows on you, so be sure to hear it a couple of times to set your feet tapping. The rap interlude is fun, and Vidyasagar shows his versatility. ***

Egire Chilakkamma This is the kind of tune that Vidyasagar excels at-rhythmic and with a regular chorus. The tune and the lyrics just about make it hummable, and Udit Narayan's voice, as always, is melodious. ***

Ra Ra Bangaram Knowing Pawan's penchant and liking for folk beats in all his movies, one is not surprised to hear this song. This title track fits Pawan's image, but to listen to, it's an average number. The remix is better than the original, more peppy and danceable. ***

Maro Masti Maro Why, oh why, has such talent been wasted? Both Vidyasagar and Bhuvanachandra has offered us pretty good music in the past, and so have singers Sukhwinder Singh and Anuradha Sriram. This is a fast paced song, and starts off well, but even this is below expectations. **1/2

Chedugudante A trademark Pawan song, and this folk based song from Srikakulam is impressive. This will probably be the most popular number from the album, followed by 'Jai Shambo'. This is one song that aims to entertain, and does a great job of it. The lyrics are cute and the playback singers KK and Anuradha Sriram are the perfect choice for this song. The team seems to have worked on this song immensely and their effort will not go down the drain-this one song is enough to attract the masses to the theatres, as music is the best initial drawer, apart from the star cast. ****

And the verdict is.. The use of some good singers and two good songs along with one 'mass' number will save this album; this is disappointing fare only because people except the best out of everyone connected in this film, be it Vidyasagar, Bhuvanachandra, AM Ratnam or Pawan. If you do not keep that in mind, it may well pass off as an above average album. Chedugudante.. will pull the crowds in; otherwise the fate of the music is entirely dependent on the fate of the movie. Music wise, well, it's not gold.
