It's finally out. The wait is over. Chirutha starring Ramcharantej and Neha Sharma, directed by Puri Jagannath has released its music. The curiosity levels are at a all-time high, with media hype and slick promotion and publicity doing the rounds. Chiranjeevi's son is all set to be launched, and it is a matter of time to see if he'll sizzle on screen or fizzle out. Puri has given two huge hits in a row, Pokiri and Desamuduru. Whether he can make it a hatrick and whether Ramcharan lives up to the immense expectations he is shouldering remains to be seen. As of now, the music by Mani Sharma is adequate.
Yamaho Yama Kailash Kher's powerful voice along with Tippu and Sirivennela's lyrics make this an enjoyable song. The music and the chorus with a little Hindi lyrics infused into it makes it a danceable number. This has that 'qawwali' style seen in 'Tumse Milke Dil Ka Jo Haal' in Main Hoon Na. It's high on energy and youthful peppiness. ***.5
Love You Raa This song gets straight to business. The previous number has the guy besotted by the girl, while this one is a duet with superb beats. Mani Sharma is a known magician on the keyboard, and it shows in this song. Ramajogaiah Sastry's lyrics are uncomplicated, romantic and casual. ***.5
Yenduko Karunya's voice and the guitar used in this song are its highlights. It is a conventional number, but lively nonetheless. Bhaskarabhatla's lyrics and the chorus is archetypal. The song ends as well as it starts. ***.25
Champa Champa This one sounds like it could be the title number. Gita Madhuri's husky voice and the western instrumental including guitar and drums used in this make it interesting. Viswa's lyrics are directed at Chiranjeevi's admirers and first day crowds. A whistle-worthy number on-screen, by the sound of it. ***.25
Maaro Maaro Typical 'mass' beats, Hindi lyrics and some lines like '..manam antene low class'. Point noted. Oh and there's some English chorus too, the customary 'Now we gonna party'-the works. We've heard this one too many times before. **.75
Kanneeti Mallikharjun's voice teams up with soft guitar strums along with Kandikonda's sorrowful lyrics in this sad bit number. Take some tissues along. **.75
Ivvale Another duet and a really happy one at that. KK's voice rocks and the song has a western appeal to it. But again, we heard this kind time too many before. Kandikonda's 'You are my chocobar' lyric sounds silly but it's catchy. This one ends well too. ***
Innala Welcome back, Usha. This song sounds similar to the other sad number 'Kanneeti'. Usha's voice is melodious. **.75
Last Word The posters look great, the colors used are typical Puri, the music is satisfactory. What remains to be seen is how the movie fares. As for the music, it's not a Pokiri, which grows on you each time you listen nor is it a Khushi which people liked on the first hear. Mani Sharma's Chirutha music oscillates somewhere in between. It's lively, peppy and youthful but definitely not ultra-fresh or something we have never heard before. With 8 songs in it, three numbers are the sort that grow on you and two are pleasant. The others are average. The album is not mind-blowing but it's good.
