Keeravani's music for Gunde Jhallumandi is one of the better albums of this season. It has some interesting beats with the composer painting new shades on his musical canvas. The movie stars Uday Kiran and Aditi Sharma, and is directed by Madan.
I have a Boyfriend A teenybopper number as is obvious by the very title, it's a mix of Keeravani and American teenage pop a la Avril Lavingne/Britney in her peak/Ashlee Simpson. Nikitha Nigam does a good job with the playback. With a cute chorus accompanying her Chaitanya Prasad's youthful urbane lyrics, the song is a good candy floss number. It has some interesting violin and other instrumental that is remarkably Keeravani blended with international beats that makes an interesting combi, if not anything. ***
Gunde Jhallumandi It starts off with cool instrumental, and the playback with several youthful voices takes their cue from there. Deepu, Ganga, Malavika and Chandrateja render the romantic number with much gusto, with a classical interlude and an active chorus ending the song on a pepped up note. ***.25
True Love MM Keeravani with Usha and Bhargavi Pillai combines to form the interesting playback trio for this medium paced rock-influenced number. Chaitanya Prasad's lyric with Keeravani experimenting with his sounds makes an energetic and new wave Telugu song. This sounds vaguely like some international hits, but with a distinct Telugu warmth to it, the sort Kreem excels in even when he composes a hit number in Hindi with an international sound. ***.5
Padava Kastha Jai Srinivas and Madhuri render this melodious number, another (and totally different) version of the title number, Gunde Jhallumandi. Nonetheless, the softer and mischievous number also gets your attention and sweetens the atmosphere in the brief span it lasts. ***.25
Idhi Adhe Krishna Chaitanya and Geeta Madhuri lend their voices to this total retro number. This belongs to the 80s, and sounds like a remixed version of a real 80s song. Chaitanya Prasad pens in appropriate lyrics. The vocals are good. The pace shifts from medium to fast. ***
Telusa Manasa Krishna Chaitanya and Geeta Madhuri render Chaitanya Prasad's lines again. With a noir style instrumental and a romantic and contemplative 'Who is she?' 'Who is he?' added for good measure, it's a soft and blissfully dreamy number. ***
Nee Nuduti This is a short song, another version of the title number rendered with syrupy sweetness by Geeta Madhuri and penned by K Siva Dutta. ***
Ila Endukouthondi MM Keeravani and Geeta Madhuri sing this intense, perhaps an estrangement number or at least a crisis song. And a crisis in love is as beautiful as a happy situation, music wise. Keeravani's instrumental along with his playback is the USP of the song. He's really in an experimental mood-he even does a little DJ-ing and twists the turntables, by the sound of it. The overall effect is good, and the apparent urgency of the song makes for a good signing off number. ***.25
Last Word Another album in the recent times with 8 numbers (the other one is Mallepuvvu by Illayaraja). This is a compilation which spells youth, energy and Keeravani comes up with newer and fresher versions of himself. Some might like the classic Kreem more, but this will certainly satiate his listeners this season. Two of the numbers are super short, and equally sweet. There is melody too, softness and a balancing of pace that makes it a versatile, satisfactory album.
