Rating: **** (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)
Remember when Devisri Prasad made a mark with Anandam, one of his first flicks? Telugu music buffs sat up and are still known to hum the lilting melodies even to this day. Not world class, but fresh and spunky. Now, with good and average music being churned out by him since then, he's back with a bang with Jagadam. Starring Ram of Devadasu fame, and new face Isha, and directed by Sukumar of Aarya fame, Jagadam promises music that spells youth and charm. Devisri and Sukumar work their magic yet again, proving to be a musically successful composer-director combo.
Violence Is A Fashion Whew! What a start to an album. Devisri Prasad croons this number with much rage and anger, contrary to his usual cheery rendering. The title song has an uncanny resemblance to RGV's movie songs, like Goli Maar (Satya), Ganda Hai par Danda Hai ye (Company). Whether this is deliberate or unwarranted for, it sounds like one of those gangster flick title numbers. The rest of the album is quite different. Army commands also ring through with the chorus. ***.5
5 Feet 8 Inches After Hip Hop and Rap, it is the time of Country music to make its foray into Telugu songs. So Devisri is into country songs now, which shows with this conversational number. The lazy strumming of the guitar, the laidback pace but with this peppy and lively feel to it-total country stuff. This song is good, totally hummable. There is a phrase to define such songs-Campus Beats. And yeah, Tippu and Priya crib, kiss and make up fabulously well in this youthful number. ****
36-24-36 A mischievous song, possibly the unavoidable item song of the album. But who's complaining? Mamatha Mohandas croons this song, and her husky and volatile vocals suit this naughty number well. Oh, there is even a Remix Version of this song. Only difference is the English lyrics inserted here and there, along with a faster pace. ***
Everybody Rock Your Body Comparisons, as they say, are inevitable. This is You Rock My World Part II (from Aarya). Just as energetic, bubbly and a dance number that will be played in all celebrations for a while. Typical, but hey, Devisri introduces the Desi Justin Timberlake with a percussionist making an entry for the interlude. A good dance number. ****
Mu Mu Mudhante Chedha A combination of a few English numbers including Beyonce's Naughty Girl, this song has the Arabic feel to it. Rendered by Raquib Alam, the song starts with an old number and International artiste Limbdi's dance music. What a super cool copy, err, sorry, 'inspiration', Devisri. Way to go! ***.25
