It's a combo that's worked before. Maybe a part combo. Varun Sandesh-Dil Raju-Mickey J Meyer. However, the director is Srikanth Addala and it stars child actor turned lead Swetha Prasad (competition for Hansika). It also has about a 100 other real time teenagers, debutants. Did someone say Happy Days? No, this is Kotha Bangaru Lokam.

Kalashalalo This song reminds you of Pathashala from Rang De Basanti in some parts. Not a blatant copy or a direct lift, this has shades of the former number. Srikanth Addala, the director himself, penned the song (ditto Mehr Ramesh for Kantri's title track) rendered by Krishna Chaitanya, Aditya, Siddhartha, Kranthi, Sasikiran. A cool college number, could be a alternate dance number. ***

Nijamga Nenena This has the sound of valleys and streams and everything subtly rural, yet really contemporary. Karthik gives his youthful touch to the song with his vocals. Ananth Sriram's lyrics talk about new found love and happy disbelief at it. Sweet and soft. ***

Varun Sandesh and Swetha PrasadConfusion Krishna Chaitanya and Mickey render this quintessential college number-Confusion, penned by Ananth Sriram. It's not all that catchy or memorable once the album is finished, but pretty situational and apt for a teen love story-‘Confusion…teenage ae confusion'. Elementary, Watson. The instrumental is its USP. Not in the ‘Main Aisa Kyon Hoon' league, but in that genre. ***

Nenani Neevani And she sings too! The child actor turned female lead plus playback singer. Swetha Prasad exudes freshness with the title number. She has a lilting voice and ups the already high expectations one has out of the Makdee Kid. The song is one of the best in the album, the music, the lyrics by Seetharama Sastry and Swetha's fresh vocals. This song is sure to feature in music contests in the state from now on. That kind of a number. ***.75

Ok Anesa Naresh Iyer and Kalyani do a good job with the playback for Seetarama Sastry's lines. As the title of the song explains, it is about accepting love. It has a little exhilaration combined with a sense of mischief. It's a casual and cool number that manages to make you hum along. ***.5

Swetha Prasad and Varun SandeshNee Prashnalu SP Balasubramanyam sings this soothing number with lyrics by Seetarama Sastry. It's about youth and life, and seems to cover a broad spectrum of things. It's not a number that really grows on you, so if you liked it the first time you heard it, you will always like it and vice versa. Nothing exciting though, and hopefully stays in the background. ***

Pick of the Album: TNenani Neevani, also the title track.

Last Word After a not-so-Mickey Hare Ram, the young composer is back with his trademark sounds, instruments and theme. The title track is lovely, three of the other songs including Kalashalalo, Nijamga Nenena and Ok Anesa are other good songs in the album. Confusion and Nee Prashnalu are just okay. Contemporary, soft with a peppy tempo and pleasant, Kotha Bangaru Lokam has a lot of things going for it, including music.
