Anushka and Gopichand

Gopichand and Anushka star in Lakshyam, which has music by Mani Sharma. Although Gopichand's last release 'Okkadunnadu' did not see much success at the box-office, it had pleasant music by MM Keeravani. Lakshyam has average music, nothing harsh on the ears. Three numbers are worth listening to, while the overall album is just about okay.

Gullo Devudu Madhu Balakrishna lends his voice to this situational song penned beautifully by Chandrabose. It's one of those happy, brave songs that are meant for the particular moment in the movie. A song obviously meant to propel the plot forward, it makes for a agreeable hearing. ***.25

Sukku Sukku Tippu and Sujatha render this slightly rustic, earthy number which has zero freshness but sung with much enthusiasm. Chandrabose's lyrics are not up to his usual standards here. It is one of those songs that loudspeakers at sidey functions seem to keep playing repeatedly. Yawn! **

Chekkarakeli Shreya Ghosal and Karthik's lilting voices make this romantic number better than it really is. Ramajogaiah Sastry's lyrics are all right; ditto the music. Nothing great, but not a song that you need to fast forward or skip. **.75

Niluvave Hemachandra sounds good in this remix of the famous 'Niluvave Valu Kanula Dana'. With the mandatory rap beats as is present in all remix songs, Hemachandra's voice is refreshing. No comparisons with the Ghantasala original, because neither the music nor the voice can match up. But as a remix, it is not bad. ***.5

Gopichand and Anushka

Naa Coffee This is a cute teen-style song that has lyrics only Chandrabose could have written-something he especially excels at. Sharma gives the song equally simple beats and makes it worth listening to. Ranjith and Kalpana's voices suit the number tremendously. ***.25

Sukku Sukku (Remix) This is a slight improvement from the original. Obviously there is some rap infused with funky beats and chorus. **.75

Pick Of The Album Niluvave and Naa Coffee.

Last Word Mani Sharma gave us albums like Kushi, Okkadu and Pokiri, that grow on you over time. One time listening won't do. But for Lakshyam, a second time hearing may not be what one would prefer, as the music is but mediocre. Mani Sharma could have done much more, but didn't. Average.
