Mallepuvvu stars Bhoomika and Murali Krishna, and directed by Samudra. Ilayaraja's music is not his signature style (which is really superior) and the album is just decent and nothing more.

Malle Puvvulo The tingling un-syrupy sweetness of 'Ninnu Kori' from Gharashana is evident in the opening number of Ilayaraja's Mallepuvvu. Shreya Ghosal and Karthik suit this song really well, and they do a good job on the playback. Veturi's pens in the lyrics for this simple title song; a cute little duet which is sets the tone for the rest of the soft album. It has an old-world charm about it, not yet out-dated but not quite classic. ***.25

Lokam One of those 'hot-blooded youngster' songs, rendered by Tippu. But it has a long-lost quality about it, as if it was composed for a song way back in the 90s. It would have really rocked then, sadly now it sounds like an old and forgotten number. One part inspirational and one part triumphant expression, Lokam Anta Manadera is just okay. **.75

Murali Krishna and BhoomikaGaajula More than anything, Manjari's little girl voice makes the song sweetly old-fashioned. The instrumental is quite contemporary, so the playback and Veturi's lyrics combine to give it a rustic touch. The solo is an Alice in Wonderland song; not Ilayaraja's in top form though. ***

Suvvi Suvvi Don't compare it to the maestro's original composition. Bhava Tarani does a decent job with the playback, and overall it's not bad. But since a lot more than that is expected from the composer-lyricist duo, it is a little disappointing. **.75

Chandamama Shreya Ghosal and Ilayaraja lend their voices to this number, which is seeped in soft melodious. Again, this is an old-world number, but a really sweet composition. A lovely duet, this can really fall into the classic mode-and doesn't require to be contemporary. The unique playback combination adds to the USP of the number, along with Veturi's lines. A song strictly for those in love. ***.75

BhoomikaChirugaali Vijay Yesudas renders this solo, which is a peaceful wistful number. The lyrics by Veturi are extremely simple, basic and eloquent. A melodious and romantic number full of longing. ***

Hero Nenochane This hero is serving tea. We can never get enough of tea and everyone starting from Chiranjeevi and now Tippu is keen on singing a Greatness of Tea number. Amen to that. Here Veturi lists the various kinds of tea, and it might make a nice situational number. On the player though, one is likely to skip the song in hearing. **.75

Vasthava Naatho It starts off like a Vamsi-Ilayaraja number, with music that only the maestro can provide. Once the playback starts, Malathi's husky and deep voice makes it clear it is the Item Song of the album. It has a slight rustic feel, combined with Ilayaraja's trademark playing with his instruments. ***

Theme It is just a short and sweet theme with the female playback rendering the title 'Mallepuvvu'.

Last Word Eight songs in all, along with the Theme Music. That's quite a lot these days. Ilayaraja's music is not amongst his best compositions, but even the best sportsman cannot get a Gold at every event. This might be a bronze at best, and music enthusiasts might even be disappointed with the maestro's middling music this time around. But with two redeeming numbers, it's definitely not bad.
