This is the first time director YVS Chowdary and composer Mani Sharma are teaming up. With three songs standing out in an album that doesn't disappoint at all, versatility is the keyword.
Okka Magadu Want to hear music that makes you tap your feet? Leave Mani Sharma with a keyboard and prepare to be dazzled. The title track is definitely a winner. Chandrabose penned some interesting lines, Sharma's composition is flawless with English lyrics added for that 'feel' and Rita and Bhargavi excel at the playback. What more can one want in a super cool title number. Cool, that's what it is. ***.75
Devadi Deva Vijay Yesudas and Ranjith render this number with a strong chorus. Unlike most of the other numbers in the album, this has a very ethnic feel to it (as opposed to the western sounding beats in the title number and other songs). An instrumental interlude in this song elevates the otherwise average number. ***
Ammatho This is a cheeky number, with the same composer-lyricist duo. Naveen and Anushka team up for the playback. But it's nothing new for Mani Sharma, and we've heard this a couple of times before. **.75
Aa Aaa Ee Eee This is one more song that has lyrics that make you smile. The voices in the song, Rahul Nambiar and Jey do a very good job. The instrumental in this number is nice, but it's the mixing that catches your attention. Fast and energetic, this is a fun duet. ***.25
Nanu Paalinchaga This is a relatively slow and soft number, but only relatively. Mallikarjun joins Rita at the end of the number. This grows on you as you listen to it and sounds better slowly but surely. ***
Rey 536 Rey 536 is a song full of some very polite words, like Nee Abba, Sachinoda…and others ending with 'Ittage Tittina Tittu Tittakunda Tittutanu..Rey!' This is the sort of number that suits Rita; more than Nanu Paalinchaga. She is in her element in this number. The song has a very MJ feel to it, like 'Beat it' and 'Bad'. This is a song that's not to be taken seriously and targets the youth. ***
Pattuko A nice combination i.e., Chitra and SP Balu, as it reminds you of those 90s songs that was the beginning of Mass. This song defines what Mass is all about with very good playback and those drum beats that take you down memory lane. **.75
Last Word The title number, Aa Aaa Ee Eee and Rey are good compositions. Nanu Paalinchaga is the softest song in the album and Pattuko is over-the-top. Devadi Deva and Ammatho are not bad either. Totally, the music of Okka Magadu is Mani Sharma giving it a pretty good shot along with Chandrabose. It's a good album, so the rest depends on how the movie fares.
