Parugu has a lot of expectations banking on it, with Bommarillu fame Bhaskar's direction and starring Allu Arjun-Shiela. The music by Mani Sharma is good, perhaps by habit; it seems like Sharma giving music that doesn't appeal to any tastes is not possible at this juncture at least. So the music is reasonably good, but not blockbusterish. Most of the songs grow on you though, and the movie itself might elevate it a bit further.
Parugulu The music begins on a high note with tremendous energy oozing out of every chord. It also transfers you to a nostalgic plane, wonder why? Maybe because the background score for Parugulu is straight from Micheal Jackson's best hits, 'Beat it' and edited only ever so slightly to make it 'original enough'. Well, inspired at the very best. Ranjith does a good job with the playback with lyrics by Sirivennela. ***.25
Nammavemo Saketh, a relatively new name, lends his vocals for this soft and sweet number. Anantha Sriram chips in the lyrics to the mellow beats. Saketh's voice sounds different from the word go and suits the mood of the song pretty well. Funnily enough, the starting strings are like 'Mitwa' (KANK) and the tune slightly resembles 'Pattu Okato Saari' (Aadi) when it begins. But then it is a mere resemblance and it takes off on it's own note thereon. ***
Yelageylaga Saindhavi and Khailesh Kher are a vocal treat for this 'Mass' number. Anantha Sriram's lyrics are just one part of the picture, it's the playback quality and the quirky composition that makes the song sound nice. It will definitely make a good dance number, and since Arjun dances well, something can be expected from this song. ***.25
Chal Chal Ranjith again, this time singing Chandrabose's lines about having a good time in life. With a soft interlude in a medium-fast paced number and a time-table listed in it for good measure, the song is all about 'Right now..Just Go Go Go..'. Chal Chal has nothing new to offer as it's predecessor, and sounds just okay. ***
Hrudayam This sounds nice, but just like the other 300 heartbreak numbers in the last five years. 'Nammaka Thappani' from Bommarillu undertones are glaringly obvious, especially in the beats (let alone the mood/lines). But all said and done, listened in entirety and solidarity, it's a nice and touching number with good vocals by Hemachandra and lines by Sirivennela that are straight from the heart. ***
Manakanna Podiche '..Magavade Ledammao' so writes Anantha Sriram for the protagonist of Parugu. Rahul Nambiar renders it with zest and the number picks up from the second stanza. A song full of self-praise and brimming with confidence, it's a medium paced number. **.75
Last Word Not disappointing, but not the best of Sharma. Three of the numbers stand out, including Parugulu, Yelageylaga and Hrudayam. The entire compilation is not bad, yet there is nothing unique about the sound. Still, the movie-music connection is directly proportional and considering all factors, the music is good enough, but just enough. Nothing great though.
