Pourudu, starring Sumanth and Kajal, has good music. Not fabulous music, but good Telugu cinema numbers which will surely increase the viewer-ship for the movie. Mani Sharma doesn't disappoint, with four songs plus a remix. Chalre Chalre is a solo and possibly the Intro song, Nee Pakkanunte is all about romance, Andaalane Andistha and Salsa Idi Salsa are youthful duets and Aamyamiya is a club song. So for the season, it's a good album.
Chalre Chalre Ranjith is impressive in this youth-oriented number, which might come under the bracket of 'inspirational' songs. Like those trademark ones in every Maheshbabu and Pawan Kalyan movies, from 'Raakhsasa Rajyam', 'Jagadame' and others, but a little slower. With English lyrics infused in the chorus, the vocals, instrumental (Sharma playing with the Keyboard) and an active chorus, the song is catchy and cool. ***.25
Nee Pakkanunte Hemachandra and Usha give their voices to this take-off on 'Meri Sapnon Ki Rani'. Of course, it is not a direct lift, but the influence is evident as the song starts. Okay, so there's some Telugu rap (yes, there is such a thing called Telugu rap) and the song another one in the album which grows on you and is quite hummable. ***.25
Aamyamiya Another number that starts off with Hindi lines after Chalre Chalre; this one even sounds like a Hindi item song. Suchitra's voice suits the song perfectly. Bhaskarabhatla's lyrics describe the mood aptly, with a lot of Hindi words for that added effect. An instrumental interlude in the number is quite nice, and the entire song is a dark and fast dance number. Again, someone's been let loose at the DJ console but the mixing is good here. ***
Andaalane Andistha This is a duet with Rahul Nambiar and Rita at the playback. It's a peppy number, with good use of strings. Peddada Murthy's lyrics are kept simple and the focus is on the beats. ***
Salsa Idi Salsa There is a fun repartee between Venu and Usha about the female voice insisting on learning Salsa, which is High Class and the male voice talking about, you guessed it, Mass toh pettukunte..! It seems to be a situational number, with Ramajogayya Sastry's lyrics elevating the fun element. Though the song lacks novelty, it's still nice enough. ***
Nee Pakkanunte (Remix) Funnily enough, Maaro Maaro in Chirutha begins like this, and it is even followed by a soft chorus that sounds like 'Maaro Maaro'. After that, except the beats, the resemblance ends. This techno-trance love song is rendered by Hemachandra and Usha with passing influences from some popular club mixes. A remix of the original. **.75
Last Word The album spells youth and unassuming energy, something that Mani Sharma has been known to dish out with ease. The playback consists of the younger Mani Sharma regulars like Suchitra, Rita, Ranjith and Rahul Nambiar. It's not over-the-top or showy, just four solid songs with a remix, all of which are worth one's while to hear anytime. It's quite rare not to want to skip one or two of the songs in an entire album. But Pourudu achieves just that so the album's worth every penny.
