Tulasi stars Venkatesh and Nayanatara, seen together again after the success of Lakshmi. Devisri Prasad has composed the music for Tulasi. The songs are not bad; they might not be an asset for the movie, but they don't fall below expectations. If there is a standard which measures good commercial Telugu film music, then Tulasi will fall on the line, not above or below. In other words, average. The album is a mix of hummable and mediocre numbers.
Mia Mia Devisri starts off this song with his trademark voice and tune, and Naveen and Mamta Mohandas take over from there. This is a fun, peppy and fast-paced number, the kind of song we've heard in each Devisri album till date. Mamta Mohandas's expressive and lilting voice is a highlight for the song. There is some vague similarity this song shares with the title track in Dubai Seenu. ***
Vennelintha A romantic duet with Chandrabose's flowing lyrics and vocals by Venu and Sunitha. It's a sweet song, and one of the better numbers in the album. There is no freshness or uniqueness about it, but it's a straightforward love song. ***
Tula Tula Tulasi The title track disappoints. Tippu and Priya render this number with lyrics by Chandrabose. This song sounds like it is from some other lower budget movie, and some lesser paid composer. Mediocre is the key word here. **
Hello Boys By the sound of it, Hello Boys is a father-son song. The father is promising the world to his son(s). Devisri Prasad lends his voice to the song, with a kid chorus going 'I want to be a Spiderman, catch me if you can' and 'I love you, daddy'. So you get the picture-a situational, conversational number. **.25
Nee Kallathoti This reminds you of a soft jazz number, especially when it begins. It is in the same league as 'Muvvala Navvakala' in Pournami. Sagar and Chitra lend their voices, an asset, for both have lovely voices paired with Bhaskarabhatla's conventional lyrics. The instrumental in the song is good. A catchy tune, soft melody and good playback. ***.75
Nee Chuk Chuk Bandini Devisri and Malgadi Subha (after a long time in Telugu) render this number. The instrumental and tune sounds similar to 'Nuvvunte' from Aarya. Sahithi pens this song, which is obviously in the 'item' bracket. **.75
Last Word Mia Mia, Vennelintha and Nee Kallathoti are good. Tula Tula Tulasi and Hello Boys fail to impress. Nee Chuk Chuk Bandini falls in between the two categories. It is obvious Devi Sri has borrowed a lot from his own compositions (Pournami and Aarya). Overall, it's an average album, with three good and three stale numbers.
