A Street of Fun And Peppiness

APK | August 5, 2006

Rating: *** (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)

After a debut as music director with Teja's 'Jai', Anoop Rubens is back with 'Veedhi'. The music is hummable, and Rubens shows promise. Nothing outstanding, but when was the last time we had outstanding music? The songs are peppy and energetic for most part.

Takatakatayi Karunya and Anoop render this 'Boys Only' song which has the typical mass feel with a difference-the feel is fresh and new. The kind of song that is played in the beginning of a movie to set the pace for fun and frolic. ***

Cheliya Cheliya This song starts with a conversation between the boy and the girl about a girl that the boy likes. It is a lovely melody, elevated ten fold by Karthik's enthusiastic rendering. One of the best songs in the album. ***1/2

Jennifer Lopez The music of this song is by Khuddus and the song is rendered by Viswa. Heard of Tinglish? A mix of Telugu and English which you will be exposed to in this rock-n-roll cum Telugu hip-hop fare, it is a typical disco song. ***

Naa Chitti Talli This a sweet and emotional number to which Jai Srinivas lends his vocals. It seems similar to the song 'Jolaalee' in Vikramarkudu, possibly because both of them are sad little lullabies. A short and sad melody. ***

Niginelanee Taruvathe A very energetic number full of rhythm and dance-beats. Karunya and Mathangi sing this number with much gusto and pace, almost competing with each other. Again, a good number in this album, which can set your foot tapping. ***1/2

Brudhavaninike Chinduluneripi This song is about Lord Krishna and Chitra's voice takes an okay-song to another level. ***

Boomshaka Boomshaka Pacy chorus which is probably the background score-interesting and energetic and Anoop does a good job of keeping the pace up. ***.25

And the verdict is.. It is a good album, which will support the script of this movie, but it cannot take it up any further. It all depends on the response to the movie about where the music will go-in short, a symbiotic relationship. For now, Rubens doesn’t disappoint but one will have to wait and watch.
