Not In The Cream Of Kreem's Compositions

APK | June 08, 2006

Rating: **.75 (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)

The name MM Keeravani rings a bell, sorry-a tune, in every Telugu cinegoer's mind. Now even for the Hindi music lovers, Keeravani aka Kreem captured all hearts composing albums like 'Jism'-absolutely unforgettable melodies in both Telugu and Hindi. For MMK's standards, this album is disappointing. The songs offer nothing new, nor do they contain the simple charm of Kreem's melodies. It's an above average album, but Keeravani's compositions have that haunting appeal in them which this one lacks.

Dammare Damma This is reminiscent of an earlier song 'Dhool' (Tamil song, also in NTR's 'Naaga'-Remember the 'Dhool Anakapalli Centerlo' track?). This sounds like it is the hero's intro song. Chitra's versatility comes across in this song. It is a fast paced dance number, but has nothing new to offer. **.75

Jum Jum Maya When Keeravani sings, people sit up and take notice-his is the unusual kind of voice that you'd want to hear over and over again, just like his compositions. This is not one of his better albums overall but this song will appeal to the audience while the movie lasts. Keeravani molds his voice to suit Raviteja and says "I can feel nothing-nothing.." which adds some charm to the song-although usage of English lyrics in Telugu songs is getting repetitive. ***

Vastavaa After 'Chedugudante Bhayam' in Bangaram, Anuradha Sriram has been roped in for another folk-converted-into-'item' song. It's an okay song. **

Dooranga This song has a nice beat, and suits an actor like Raviteja very well. Keeravani lends his voice again along with co-writing the lyrics with Bandaru Danayya. This is a hummable number and MMK's trademark rhythmic melody ever-present in it. ***

Jolalee This is a beautiful (and brief) lullaby-but one can hardly go wrong with this. The mother sentiment song in 'Chatrapati' was better, not to mention longer. **.75

College Papala When this song starts off, you are reminded of the 'On A Hot Summer Morning' song in 'Mayajalam' sung by Devi Sri Prasad. This is a fun song, and has been put together nicely, definitely composed with Raviteja in mind. ***

And the verdict is.. The album proudly declares 'A Keeravani Musical'-but it is not one of his better ones. MMK is known for some exceptional melodies, and there is not one trace of his unique style in this album, even with numbers like Dummare, Jum Jum Maya and College Papala, this album doesn't live up to one's expectations. Kreem fans, prepare to get disappointed.
