With three films - Lakshmi, Devadasu and Style - completing 50 days at the box-office and still going strong and with many other major films lined up for release, it seems the good days have just begun for the Telugu film industry.
Devadasu - the first release of the year 2006 - completed 50 days at about 75 cinemas. Besides being a commercial success, the film introduced two new faces - Ram and Ileana. Riding high on the success of the film, the duo have managed to bag some prestigious projects - Ileana (Pokiri, Munna and Jadoo) and Ram (director Sukumar's next venture). Chakri's lilting music and Chintapalli Ramana's power-packed dialogues are the major plus points for the film. Besides, the director YVS Chowdary, who is also the producer of the film, has extracted wonderful performances from the entire cast
Producer Lagapadapati Sridhar did it again. His second venture, Style, released on 12 January with 121 prints, has completed 50 days at about 108 cinemas and he is planning to celebrate it in a big way on March 8 which also happens to be International Women's Day. With the success of 'Style', choreographer-turned-director Lawrence proved that he is not a one-film wonder. Apart from the multi starcast, which also includes Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna in guest appearances, the USP of the film was the undercurrent of mother sentiment.
Venkatesh, who desperately needed a hit, found a solace in 'Lakshmi'. The film has managed one of the best openings in the career of the multi-faceted actor and is on the way to be the biggest grosser among Sankranthi releases. It completed 50 days at about 215 cinemas. The producer of the film, Nallamalupu Srinivas (Bujji) is planning to celebrate the 50 days function on January 12 at Sir CR Reddy College, Eluru. Director VV Vinayak, who is known for his action films, has proved that he can woo the family audiences too with the film and added another success to his brilliant career.
The female leads of 'Lakshmi' have also benefited from the success of the film. Charmme, who also starred in 'Style', is currently working in MS Raju's 'Pournami', while Nayanatara, the other female lead in 'Lakshmi', has bagged two plum assigments - one opposite Nagarjuna, the other co-starring Prabhas.
