Albums come and albums go, with or without leaving a trace. Composers copy, so many musicians in our own Tollywood are inspired by their contemporaries elsewhere, and the much in demand CG.com Copy Cat Crown waits to be placed on a one such inspired head.
Puri Jagannath's 'Idiot' was a huge hit, and the young and talented Chakri's melodies played a major role in its success. Chakri, from 'Bachi' in 2000 has risen to fame for his compositions in various movies like Sathyam, Andhrawala, Sivamani among others. His godfather is Puri Jagannath, and the duo has always given musical hits together. This consistent composer even donned the mantle of an actor for the movie Sathyam, where he plays himself.
About copying tunes he says, "I hate it, but I may have to do it if the producer or the director wants it. But it is a shame to copy tunes. I don't like it unless I am forced to do."
All musical beings are inspired from something or the other. In fact 'muse' itself means inspiration. But a Greek translating lesson is not today's topic-it is about placing the CC Crown on a deserving CC. So, here we go.
Chak De Patte! Chakri competes for this crown with much gusto. 'Idiot' had the famous 'Choopultho Gucchi Gucchi Champake' number which gave Ravi Teja his boisterous image. Eve teasers national anthem, this song was actually copied from Mika's 'Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag'. Mika who? Famous Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi's infamous brother, the man in the recent Rakhee Sawant kiss controversy.
Hungry for Hip Hop Again a Ravi Teja starrer, 'Bhageeratha' had him sway to Chakri's hip hop beats. The problem was, international artist 50 Cent's 'In Da Club' sounds exactly the same. This is all new, revamped and re-energized Telugu Hip Hop song 'Dil Se Karna'.
Lucky Again! Another super hit song, 'O Maguva' from the musical entertainer 'Sathyam' (also actor Sumanth's first hit) was inspired from Lucky Ali's runaway success 'O Sanam'. What can we say, other than that the composer was 'lucky' again?
Classic Copies These were the major ones, not counting 'Chennai Chandrama' from 'Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammai' (another Puri-Ravi Teja combo) which has the tune of 'Maha Ganapatim', a classical number and 'Mona Mona' song from 'Sivamani - 9848022338' inspired by the devotional 'Rama Rama.. Neela Megha Shyama' song.
Hey Folks! Marathi artiste Vaishali's 'Aika Dajiba', a remixed folk song was used for the opening lyrics of Sivamani's song, 'Goldurangu'.
So does he get the CC Crown then? We gave Mani Sharma and Koti's inspired moments in their musical careers last time; so amongst the three who seems most deserving of the CC tag (with due respect to all three talents-take it with a pinch of salt). Not that the competition ends here.
There is RP Patnaik, laying foundation for inspired numbers in his very first flick, the musically sound 'Chitram'. Which song? 'Bismillah - Pillai Kalla' number was a direct copy of 'Bismillah'. Even the name of this international hit has not been changed. So one such song is equal to three numbers vaguely resembling the original, don't you think?
One Crown. So much competition. The coveted 'Kireetam' is still waiting, and if not given away soon, it might just sit there gathering dust. The winner will be declared soon. Watch this space.
