A Curtain Raiser: Golden Elephant-15

Children's Film Society India logoThe 15th Internation Children's Film Festival which is taking off on 14th November at Hyderabad is being held by the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI) in association with the AP State Government. Hyderabad has been a permanent venue ever since the festival took place here in 1995 and this time the week long festival will have many international films competing for the top award in various sections such as the International Competition, Asian Panorama, the Children's World, Retrospectives/Special screenings, Creative workshops (animation), and Special events for children.

Special Commissioner for I and PR, C. Parthasarathi says that around 500 delegates, all children from various countries will form the jury out of which four members are from Hyderabad and one from Mumbai. In addition to that each district will be represented by five children who will be sponsored by the Education Department.

He adds, "We are providing food, transport and accomodation and all of them will be put up at the Tajmahal hotel. The international films will be screened at the Film Chamber of Commerce preview theatre, The Asian Panorama at FDC preview theatre and the Child delegates will view the films at the Prasad's IMAX. We have also tied up with select theatres in the city limits. The children will be compering the programmes."

Shri Parthasarathi adds that the Chief Minister will be the guest of honour at the function and the objective of the week long programme is to provide a realistic and wholesome entertainment to the children with a view of broadening their perspective and enhancing their knowledge by viewing and interaction with children from various countries." There are 26 films in the non-competitive Children's World and twenty films in the special screenings.

The Information and Public Relations Department in Masab Tank is bustling with activity. The Golden Elephant, the logo for the 15th International film festival is ready and the posters are being stuck at strategic locations like preview theatres and cinema halls. Special Commissioner I&PR Department and Managing Director APSFTVTDC Shri C. Parthasarathi is holding a press meet today to appraise the media about the arrangements being made for the week long film festival.

Any information related to the Film Festival can be accessed at http://www.cfsindia.org/. The Department notifies that the timings, schedule and locations of the films to be screened on the week days will be updated on the above mentioned website. Passes are being issued to the media and the application forms can be acquired from the Information and Public Relation Department at Masab tank.
