He was born was born to Sitarama Swamy and Gangajalam on July 27, 1917 at Peyyeru in Gudivada Taluk of Krishna district. He was married to Susheela in 1937. Dukkipati, in association with ANR, Katragadda Srinivasa Rao, Koratala Prakash Rao and TVA Surya Rao, floated Annapoorna Pictures Private Limited on September 10, 1951. As its first venture, the production company produced 'Donga Ramudu', starring ANR and Savithri, under the direction of KV Reddi. Thodi Kodallu, Iddaru Mitrulu, Chaduvukunna Ammayilu, Doctor Chakravarthy, Pula Rangadu and Atma Gowravam, films produced by him, were landmarks. 'Iddaru Mitrulu' is regarded as the first double role film in Telugu. Adurthi Subba Rao directed most of his films. Their combination served Andhraiites with films like Thodi Kodallu, Mangalya Balam, Velugu Needalu, Iddaru Mitrulu, Chaduvukunna Ammayilu, Dr. Chakravarthy, Pula Rangadu and Vichitra Bandham. He has introduced several new faces, like Korrapati Gangadhara Rao, Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Ranganayakamma, K. Viswanath, Ashalatha Kulkarni, Ramakrishna, Jeedigunta Ramachandra Murthy and Sarada to the Telugu film industry. "I am half-dead. He groomed me to be the actor I am today.
