52nd Filmfare Awards
The 52nd Filmfare South Awards function was held at GMC Balayogi Stadium, Gachhibowli, Hyderabad on the evening of 24th July with much pomp and festivity. The stadium was full, not only with the award winners, but also with the who and who of South film industry and Bollywood.
The first award, Lifetime Achievement Award from Tamilnadu was presented to veteran actress KR Vijaya by director K Viswanath. Media baron Ramoji Rao received Lifetime Achievement Award from Ramesh Sippy. Megastar Chiranjeevi received Best Actor Award from Bollywood actress Rekha for his performance in Shankardada MBBS. Trisha received Best Actress Award from Vikram for Varsham. Star producer D Ramanaidu gave Best Telugu Film Award to Varsham producer MS Raju. The others who received awards from Tollywood are Best Supporting Actor Srikanth (Shankardada MBBS) from Kiran Rathod, Best Supporting Actress Keerthi Reddy (Arjun) from Khushboo, Best Comedian Sunil (Pedababu) from EVV Satyanarayana, Best Villain Pradeep Ravat (Sye) from KL Narayana.
Jayasudha gave Best Playback Singer Award to Chitra (Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana song), Suhasini presented Best Cinematograher Award to S Gopal Reddy (Varsham). Shankar presented Best Director Award to Sukumar (Arya). Vishnu presented Best Music Director Award to Devi Sri Prasad (Varsham). Awardees of other languages include Mamotty, Surya, Ravi Krishna, Prakash Raj, Madhavan, Gopika, Sandhya, Raju Sundaram, Jaya Chandran, Guru Kiran, Bharadwaja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vivek, P Vasu, Blessy and Mohandas.
Highlights of the function:
- Ramoji Rao received the Lifetime Achievement Award in the midst of standing ovation.
- Charmi, Ramya, Sada, Kamalini, Ragasya and Blaze entertained the audience with their performances.
- Soundarya's mother received the posthumous Best Actress Award on behalf of late Soundarya for her peformance in Aptamitra (Kannada).
- She was overwhelmed with tears when the audience rose up as a mark of respect for the late actress.
- The program was compered by Shriya Reddy and Yudhistir.
- Rekha thrilled the audience by speaking in Telugu.
