Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad saw the muhurat of Sri Dega Arts' 'Manasu Palike Mouna Ragam,' directed by debutante Nagabhushan. Produced by Deva Kumar Reddy (who earlier produced the Sivaji-Meera Jasmine starrer 'Ammayi Bagundhi'), it stars Sneha and Vikramaditya in lead roles.
PD Prasad sounded the clapper-board, while Geetha Krishna directed the muhurat shot. Veteran actress Jayasudha lit the traditional lamp and performed pooja.
Concept: Where the self is, there is no love.
Where there is love, there is no self.
Synopsis: Two contradicting values of human life, namely pleasure and love are portrayed through the characters of the hero and the heroine respectively, in a modern Indian city. The plot of the movie revolves around the young hero, who returns from abroad with western values. The heroine an embodiment of a typical chaste Indian woman and an innocent village girl stays with the hero's parents after losing her parents in the Tsunami tragedy. The movie unfolds their conflicts, besides depicting the fundamental problems and the possible causes that ruin relationships, and also provides a solution to overcome them.
Significance of the title: A mind which is silent alone understands itself, and a silent mind is the beginning of a new revolution because it discovers its own limitation and how to go beyond it. This can happen only when the mind is completely silent and even free from all thoughts. All this is presented in a way which is simple to understand, visually appealing, entertaining and truly meaningful. The central idea is to see if a few minds can be ignited to think differently as it deals with subjects like divorces that have become common phenomenon, and human relationships which is under great stress in the modern world.
Sneha: The role of an innocent village girl who is orphaned by her parent's death in the
Tsunami tragedy is played by Sneha a popular actress in Tamil and Telugu. She stays with the hero's parents after the gruesome incident. Her character
symbolizes selflessness, true love, affection and divinity. Her powerful expressions as seen in the recent
super hit 'Sree Ramadasu' and all her earlier films, gets its due share in this movie.
Vikramaditya: A young upcoming actor known for his smartness and handsome looks fits into the shoes of a boy from a wealthy family with western values. He is a pop singer in London returns home for his sister's marriage and encounters the heroine. The consequences of the meeting puzzle the youth who does not believe in love but believes in a more rational and practical way of living.
Sharath Babu: A character artiste known for decades in South Indian films, he plays the role of a disciplined father and soft spoken person.
Chandana: A perfect portrayal of a strong mother, a woman with compassion, guts and a little selfishness. Her previous performances in egocentric and dominating roles have helped her to make a mark in this project.
Ishwarya: A prominent actress in the South Indian tinsel world, she excels in the role of an arrogant, desperate and frustrated woman. Her loose tongue proves to be too costly as even her husband deserts her within a week after marriage.
Producer: Deva Kumar Reddy whose interest in the business of eco-friendly farm house, film distribution and exhibition, whose previous venture was the well-received Telugu film 'Ammayi Bagundhi'starring the national award winning actress Meera Jasmine, is producing this movie under his home banner Sri Dega Arts.
Believing cinema to be a medium of communication for social change, an interest cultivated from his days at the Rishi Valley School deeply interested in J. Krishnamurthy's teachings, 'Why this silence' is a serious attempt in communicating some of his deepest concerns.
Director: Nagabhushan has gained an astute understanding of cinema, having learnt his craft working with talented film directors like Sri Vikraman, Sri RV Udayakumar and Sri Geetakrishna. Starting out as a passion, this former central government employee has steadily worked up the ranks working in films as diverse as 'Vasantham' and 'Kokila' in Telugu. This debutante director also wears the hats of an artiste cum photographer and also has the honor of winning an award for still photography from WHO, Geneva.
Music director: KM Radhakrishnan, having scored memorable music for films like Anand and the recently released Godavari, rapidly gaining popularity, he is a talented new musician who gives this film a unique
flavor with a blend of Carnatic, Hindustani and Fusion music. This music director has a reputation for composing refreshing tunes that leave the audience enthralled.
Editor: Sreekar Prasad who has won a couple of National Awards for prominent movies has assorted the sequences of this film. This avante guarde editor has been behind the famous hits like Yuva, The Terrorist, Dil Chahta Hain, The Rising and other movies that will be remembered at all times.
Cinematographer: Bharani K. Dharan has taken more than sufficient efforts to ensure perfect depiction of the mood and the feel of the narration. He recently shot into limelight for the movie 'Devadasu'. This young gentleman whose contribution was much acknowledged in 'Pranam' has the honor of learning the trade from bigwigs like SR Ashokkumar.
Art director: Suresh, a product of Madras Arts College who worked the props for the movie 'Mazhai' (Tamil) has played a remarkable role in creating realistic ambience for this film.
Lyricist: Veturi has penned the songs for this film. He is sure to repeat the magical touch seen in his recent projects like Anand and Godavari.
