Shyam Prasad Arts' Gang Leader, released on May 9th, 1991, was a huge box office success. It was megastar Chiranjeevi's biggest hit after JVAS. He followed it up with two more hits-Rowdy Alludu and Gharana Mogudu. Incidentally all three films ran for 100 days in Guntur-Sri Krishna Picture Palace and Amalapuram-Ramamahal.
Infact Sri Krishna Picture Palace has a unique record too - Ten films [Atthaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, Gang Leader, Rowdy Alludu, Gharana Mogudu, Muta Mesthri, Mugguru Monagallu, Bavagaru Bagunnara, Choodalani Vundi, Sneham Kosam, Iddaru Mitrulu, Tagore and Shankardada MBBS], all starring Chiranjeevi in the lead roles, ran for 100 days at the theatre.
Gang Leader did a mind-boggling 162-day run at Sudharshan in Hyderabad.
Produced by Maganti Ravindranath Chowdary and directed by Vijaya Bapineedu (who directed Chiranjeevi in six other films), Gang Leader had dialogues by Paruchuri Brothers, music by Bappi Lahiri, cinematography by Lok Singh, editing by Trinath, art by Chanti Addala, lyrics by Veturi-Bhuvanachandra, action by Raju and choreography by Sundaram-Swarna-Prabhudeva.
