An Interview With Kalyan Ram

Buoyed fresh from the success of Atanokkade, Kalyan Ram speaks about his future projects in an exclusive chat with CineGoer.com.

Now that 'Atanokkade' is a big success, what are your future plans and ambitions?

Two of my films did not work at the box-office. The audience did not accept me though I come from a strong filmy background. I began to rethink about my career. I wanted to prove myself as a commercial hero with a successful film. Hence, I decided to do this movie, and it turned out to be a big hit. And now I have decided to give importance to the story. I will be very selective in choosing a movie. I am planning my career very carefully.

Were you confident about the success of the film during its making?

After listening to the story, screenplay and my characterization, I was very much confident. I liked the stories of my earlier movies too but they did not work at the box-office. That's when I decided to face the audience as a full-fledged action hero. I believed the audience wanted to see me like that. That is why I was confident about its success even before its release. The audience proved me right.

Whom would you credit the success of Atanokkade to?

The credit goes to my entire team.

What are the future plans of NTR Arts?

I have a strong subject with me at this moment. We are going to make a powerful picture with my father (Hari Krishna) & Uncle (Bala Krishna), but it is too early to disclose the details yet.

Are you planning to celebrate the 100 day celebrations of Atanokkade in a novel way?

Yes. August 14th marks the 100th day of the movie. As per our estimate, it is all set to complete its run of 100 days in 32 centers. Actually we thought of celebrating it on the Independence Day, that is on 15th August. But my father's birthday falls on September 2nd. So we decided to celebrate this function grandly on that day. I am happy that I could celebrate the platinum disc function on my Uncle's (Bala Krishna) birthday.

Your grandfather, the late NTR, had acted in many mythological films and created history. Are you interested in doing any such roles?

I cannot compare myself with my grandfather. It would be very difficult for me to reach his level. At the moment, I may not be able to act in mythological films. I cannot predict the future.

At least, are you planning to work in fantasy films?

My grandfather had acted in many such films and was successful. I am very much interested in doing such movies. This idea germinated when I saw Bhairava Dweepam of my uncle (Bala Krishna). I feel our audiences accept such films.

How did the industry react to the success of Atanokkade?

I was on top of the world when stalwarts like Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna congratulated me. This meant my responsibility increased. I’m working to put out a much better performance in my next film.

Would you inform us about your new projects?

Many producers approached me after Atannokade. I told them that I need a good story and screenplay. Today quality is important to me than quantity. Story has been finalized for our new project on NTR Arts. We are coming up with a new story line. I will reveal the details soon.
