Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, the legend of the Telugu screen, has many hits to his credits, too numerous to even count. But none would have imagined that Major Chandrakanth, produced by his protégé Mohanbabu M. under his banner of Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures, would be the last of them.
Presented by Mohanbabu's younger son Manoj Kumar and directed by veteran K. Raghavendra Rao, the film had music by MM Keeravani, story-dialogues by Paruchuri brothers, lyrics by Jaladi-Gurucharan-Rasaraju, cinematography by Ajay Vincent and art by Bhaskara Raju with Sharada, Nagma, Ramya Krishna and Brahmanandam in other important roles.
The film, released on 23rd April, 1993, celebrated a 50-day run in 78 theatres, which was a record and a 100-day run in 42 theatres.
