Om Puri, Raakhi Sawant and Paresh RawalMake no mistake-Buddha Mar Gaya is a vulgar movie. It's supposed to be a comedy. But somewhere in all the straightforward (no double-meaning) offensive dialogues, the comedy fails most of the times. Sure, you snigger and chuckle many a time, but by the time you walk out of the movie hall, it's like everyone's holding a dirty secret. And the secret is-you've wasted your money on a stupid vulgar movie.

Plot Laxmikanth Kabadiya (Anupam Kher) is a rich old business tycoon who dies while he's in bed with a struggling starlet (Raakhi Sawant). The whole family keeps the matter a secret because the news of his death might mean a crash in the shares. The family consists of LK's sister (Mahabanoo Modi Kotwal), two sons and their wives and children, an incestuous web along with a bisexual Baba (Om Puri) and a servant (Paresh Rawal) keen on making money now. Amidst media attention and secret to hide, what the family gets up to is the rest of the plot.

Story, Screenplay and Direction The story seems to be a rip-off from some modern Tamasha. But neither does it have the timing, the presentation and the satire of a Tamasha. It only contains a story that has potential for comedy, but it banks completely on sick comedy. After the titles, there is a declaration 'A Black Comedy', but it should be changed to 'A BAD Comedy', which will be a more honest statement. There are some shots lifted/inspired from Naked Gun, including the ones with Raakhi Sawant and all the old men she 'struggles' with. So you get the picture, it's like that from frame one.

It's a weak script and has terrible direction. Even the actors who generally perform well do a mediocre job in this one. The background music breaks into popular songs that suit the situations. A few years ago, Ekta Kapoor made her film production debut with a movie laden with double-meaning-Kya Kool Hain Hum. It was full of vulgar comedy, but it WAS comic. It was funny and had loads of situational comedy. This example has been taken to explain that though both are offensive, one makes you laugh and the other doesn't.

To put it simply, Buddha Mar Gaya doesn't make you 'die laughing'. A few scenes and conversations will make you laugh, but those cannot be mentioned here.

Ranveer Shorey, Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher and Raakhi SawantPerformances Three really fine actors-Om Puri, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher are totally wasted in this. Ranveer Shorey, an actor with amazing talent amongst the younger lot, is wasted. Mahabanoo Modi Kotwal, the V Queen of India, is wasted. Prem chopra and Vinay Pathak in small cameos, have been wasted. Raakhi Sawant cannot be ignored, especially in this movie.

Music and Dance The background numbers serve their purpose and suit the situations well. The title song is mediocre.

Last Word The movie makes a comedy of dead bodies, relationships, homosexuality and incest. If this sounds remotely funny or is your cup of tea, then safely head to watch Buddha Mar Gaya.
