Cash doesn't live up to all the hype and expectations that surrounded it. The title song is the highlight of the movie.
Plot A diamond chase with cops, robbers et al. Angad (Sunil Shetty) heads the robber gang, along with Aditi (Dia Mirza). Aditi ropes in Karan a.k.a. Doctor (Ajay Devgan) who in turn gets three others involved in the plan. Shania (Shamita Shetty) heads the cop gang. And…the chase begins Karan ends up stealing marked money. How they escape/get caught constitutes the rest of the plot.
Story, Screenplay and Direction The direction is shoddy. There are loads of loopholes in the screenplay, stating any of which would mean giving out the full plot. Animation, the 'jetix' type, is used frequently in what must have felt like a novel idea. Remember how Dus was pacy and paisa vasool, for most part? This is the exact opposite. Cash never takes off, with a hazy script, bad performances and loads of gimmicks and car chases.
'Doc' character, played by Devgan, is a direct lift from the movie 'The Getaway' starring Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. The major flaw of this movie is that it's supposed to be a rollercoaster, but is slothful. The dialogues are badly written and the performances are worse. There is a lack of clarity in the plot. Neither the cops nor the robbers cause any impact when they appear on screen.
The scene where Ajay is on a bridge talking to Shamita below the bridge on the phone, the part where a manager describes Ajay as blurry is funny. The action sequences are stylish but we've seen better before this. A diamond chase story has been done before, but this one cannot hold the interest level up.
Performances Ajay Devgan is, sadly, wooden in this flick. Esha, Shamita and Zayed Khan are passable. Sunil Shetty and Dia Mirza do not exactly give memorable performances either. Ritesh Deshmukh, who otherwise has good potential, is wasted. So is Ayesha Takia in a guest role.
Music and Dance The title song is good, and 'Mind blowing Mahiya' is not bad. The background score could have been much better considering that Vishal-Shekhar have given better scores before.
Last WordCash tried to be a Dhoom 2. But sadly, it does not have super stars with super abs, imprecise plot, bad direction and passable music. The animation does what the actors in the movie cannot-express and fill in the action stunts. 'Mind blowing' is the oft-repeated dialogue in the movie, and the movie is the exact opposite of it.
