Executive Producer: KV Subbarao. Banner: Universal Media. Release Date: 7th June, 2007.  After the highly suggestive 'Jintata..', it is now the turn of 'Appadam Aipoddi'. Khatarnak came and went, and now Dubai Seenu is the movie Ravi Teja is banking on. Co-starring Nayanatara, Dubai Seenu is Trademark Ravi Teja again. Read on.Plot Seenu's ambition is to go to Dubai, but is duped and ends up selling Pav Bhaji on the road in Mumbai instead. Here he meets Madhu (Nayanatara) and falls for her. Back in Hyderabad, Madhu works as a radio jockey, harassed by her corrupt police inspector uncle Babji (Sayaji Shinde) who wants to marry her. Meanwhile, Jinnah (Sushant Singh) is a wanted terrorist currently in Hyderabad, and Seenu kills his brother. The flashback unravels, and a revenge drama comes into play. Story, Screenplay and Direction Firstly, the movie has traces of the recent blockbuster, Pokiri. Ashish Vidhyarthi's character and Sayaji in this movie are similar. The climax also has elements of the former hit. The first half is entertaining. Compared to the director's earlier movie this season, Dhee, there is something forced about the comedy in the first half of Dubai Seenu. Nonetheless, it entertains. The second half has a loosely interwoven flashback that has the required 'sentiment' in it. JD Chakravarthy and Neha Bamb (Dhil fame) do a cameo in this. The main villain, Jinnah's many disguises are uncalled for, as he roams around quite often without them and is not caught. The comedy tracks that are cleverly a part of the original track is typical Sreenu Vaitla-laughter guaranteed, however grudgingly. Ravi Teja-Nayanatara chemistry never takes off.  Good to digest: Suneel's confusion when he enters the Radio Mirchi office with Ravi Teja is funny. Ditto his impersonation of a Dubai Shiekh over the telephone. Brahmanandam and Venu Madhav's comedy track is really good. The 'Living legend' quirk has been used again. Ravi Teja and his gang getting drunk and hitting Krishna Bhagawan (their money lender) is reminiscent of a similar situation in Anandam. To top it all, Firestar Salmanraj i.e., MS Narayana is used well in the climax.Cannot digest: Jinnah calls his crony who gets up to take his call in the middle of the Namaz. Nayanatara is searching for her brother in Mumbai, but does not give a photo to Ravi Teja-no technology in Mumbai to make copies? The climax action sequences do not achieve the effect they set out to do so. Dialogue of the Day: Obviously, Appadam Aipoddi! Performances Ravi Teja has energy like no one does-he is forever bouncing off the walls. He does get a little repetitive at times, but he is definitely an entertainer. Nayanatara is okay, neither the role nor her performance is anything above the ordinary.  Venumadhav, Brahmanandam, Suneel and Krishna Bhagwan have good roles they take on with élan. Sushant Singh as Jinnah with his many disguises is actually a good performer, but with a clichéd role. Bhanuchander and Surekha, Sayaji Shinde and Raghubabu justify their roles.Song and Dance The music and picturization is on level with the movie as a whole. Last Word Typical Ravi Teja potbroiler, with a little bit of everything. Some comedy, silly sentiment, illogical terrorist drama all fused together-Dubai Seenu never moves out of the Indian shores. |
