Though the film is packed with all the commercial elements needed for box office, the style of making it is worth watching. Right from the concept of theme to the final product put on screen; the work done by the director is interesting. He maintains the fundamental rule of suspense at every turn of the drama. Then the photography, audiography, musical sense and dubbing quality are simply astounding. No wonder these dubbing films are having greater opening than direct takes in Telugu. This film too drew large crowds with black market ticket selling double the rate. The word 'Ghajini' is familiar because we studied about him in history books. This strange title too attracted the attention of the audience. But none of the names given to the chracters sounds like this. Nor there is any reference to it. Allu Aravind as the 'presenter' also makes the audience think that there is something in store for them.

The film takes the case of one Sanjay, played by Surya. This is narrated in a flashback format as someone is reading through a diary written by Sanjay himself. But the diary is half written. The remaining parts are shown as narrated by someone in the neighborhood. Two features attract the audience. The first one is the development of love theme between Sanjay and one Kalpana (Asin). Then Nayanatara too played another important role of a researcher into psyche of Sanjay after he was severely beaten by the politician. Music too is an attraction basically for youth, as it is given with the touch of western pop. This film will do well in metropolitan cities and municipalities, than in B and C centers. The reason is that the subject has some scientific and medical base.

The behavior pattern of Sanjay after he was hit on the head, is kept under microscope. The director says that Sanjay can retain the memory of an incident just for fifteen minutes. Later it gets erased. He also remembers the persons who hurt him or his girl. The story is woven on this base. Therefore it is his daily writings in his dairy till he lost his memory faculty, was the subject narrated. A girl Chitra (Nayanatara) from medical college starts off to study the case of Sanjay. The police too are in search of him as he figured in a few murders. A diary found in his flat reveals that he is no ordinary man. He is the chairman of a huge telecom company. He starts loving Kalpana after noticing the way she goes to the rescue of needy. But she is a bit mischievous too and bluffs to everyone that Sanjay is a great friend of hers and she can get jobs in his company for them. She is a model and postures for advertisement shots for consumer products.

One day she happens to notice some men taking 25 girls in a train compartment in which she is also travelling. She learns from a worried girl that they were kidnapping them to Mumbai's red light area. She notices some military soldiers travelling in the adjacent compartment. She rescues the girls with their help and this news is flashed across the print and electronic media. The man behind this kidnap being a politician named Lakshman (Rawat), it gains greater momentum. Lakshman and his men attack Kalpana and Sanjay and kill the girl and send Sanjay to hospital. Because of a big hit upon head, Sanjay looses his memory. But he writes all the names of the persons in the attack and decides to kill each one of them. He writes names even on his body and then takes photographs. The first part runs as if a police officer is reading through Sanjay's diary. The goons too murder him. Chitra comes to Sanjay and in her interview, she understands that Sanjay is going to kill Lakshman. Not knowing that Lakshman is central figure of all this villainy, she transfers the news of his possible death in the hands of Sanjay. This sets climax and how Sanjay succeeds in taking revenge on the rogues and murderers forms the rest.

The director Murugadoss, displays a deft hand at handling the subject. His style of taking of scenes is praiseworthy. The screenplay is taught. Music supports the drama well. Photography and editing renders the film a bit racy in narration.
