Jab We Met is a sweet little (albeit somewhat improbable) love story. From the promos itself, it is sort of clear what the basic plot is, but how it gets there and where it goes makes for light entertainment. Shahid and Kareena make a good pair this time, with roles written to suit their personalities.
Plot Geet (Kareena) is a talkative and cheerful Sikh girl on her way to Bhatinda from Mumbai. Aditya Kashyap gets on to the train without knowing where he going because of some personal tragedies. She misses her train on one station trying to call him back on to the train, and makes him take her to Bhatinda. She has one more aim-to run away and get married to her non-Sikh boyfriend Anshuman. This chance encounter makes Aditya a different person, and he falls in love with Geet. Geet's life takes some unexpected turns, and the two embark on connecting journeys once again.
Story, Screenplay and Direction There is no quiet moment in the movie. It is fun, flowing and pacy. Kareena as Geet fits the role to a T, and Shahid's character is that of a businessman's son interested in being a musician. He plays a desi version of Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, in some ways. The whole Punjabi family set-up works most of the times, from DDLJ to the recent Namaste London and now in Jab We Met.
Imtiaz Ali's direction is good, and on the whole the movie is totally watchable. It does not have any boring moments, and the movie flows easily. The first half is fun and frolic, while the second half has some sentiment and confusion leading to a predictable but happy conclusion. Somewhere in the second half, the pace abruptly goes slow, for that's only for a few scenes and then the plot quickens again.
Jab We Met is a movie that anyone looking to watch a good entertainer will enjoy. It is not a great movie, yet it has some pretty good moments and is made for the romantics.
Performances Kareena is looking good, and as she's lost a lot of weight, this time she makes a good pair with Shahid (as opposed to Fida). She's played the role of a bubbly Punjabi girl with much gusto. She's fun to watch, since the character is well-written and she gives a believable performance. Shahid Kapoor has matured looks-wise, acting-wise and he gets into Aditya's skin and has done a good job. The duo's timing is good. Pawan Malhotra and Dara Singh as Geet's relations and the rest of the Punjabi gang are good. Tarun Arora is average.
Song and Dance 'Pucho Na Pucho', 'Mauja Hi Mauja' (remix) and 'Nagada Nagada Nagada Baja' sound and look good. Three good songs are a definite plus for the movie.
Last Word It is a feel good movie and a fun journey throughout.
