Raviteja Every big movie has a USP, but Amma Rajashekar's latest movie Khatarnak has many. A title that can attract the crowds, the hyper energetic Ravi Teja (basking in his last success Vikramarkudu), the svelte new siren on the block Ileana and last but not the least, MM Keeravani's music made specifically to for the color-paper throwing front benchers (the ultimate loyalists). There were rumors that it is based on 'Main Hoon Na'. It seems like it is a mishmash of a few movies-Main Hoon Na and Munnabhai MMBS. The first half is engaging, but the grip is lost somewhere in the second half. Read on.

Plot: Das (Ravi Teja) is a good-for-nothing metric failed man who gets involved in petty fights. He is pulled into an undercover operation for a criminal gang, and for that he needs to pass his tenth to get into the police force. So we have a grown-up Das getting into school, trying to romance the drawing teacher Nakshatra (Ileana) and do everything but study. Finally he passes and becomes a traffic cop and later into the crime branch, but is now expected to do the dirty work for the criminals in the midst of the police. Prakash Raj is a cop who trusts him along with his assistant Uttej, and now Das is at a juncture where he has to choose which way to go.

Story, Screenplay and Direction: The story is a mixed bag-lot of plots into one. The first half is illogical if you think about it-why not take a good student or someone more capable instead of a petty small timer and force him to study and become a cop? It makes little sense. But the first half, although illogical and unreal, what with Das getting into school, it is entertaining. Ravi Teja pulls one monkey trick after another out of his bag and the audience attention never weavers. His romance with Ileana is one of the silliest tracks ever.

The first half was fun, and the masses are happy. Now what? The most important thing is to maintain the grip and the entertainment in the second half, which is not managed. Somewhere the grip is lost even as the plot moves forward. There is no clarity in the direction in the second half and the crowd's attention weavers at this point.

The fight in the school and all those women along with the main villain (Lal of 'Pandem Kodi' fame) are gimmicks which fail to make an impact, and backfire. Three of the songs (including 'Doma Kudithe'), the main plot in the first half, Ileana's costumes will pull in the crowds. The climax fight is a rip-off from the Hollywood movie 'Underworld'.

Ileana Performances: Ravi Teja carries on his 'Athili Satti Babu' act from Vikramarkudu. He is energetic, raw and hyper-active. Ileana's purpose in the movie was very clear, and she does her job and leaves (leaving the men happy). Ali, Brahmanandam, Uttej, Kota and Venu Madhav justify their roles. Prakash Raj has a tiny role but thankfully doesn't overact, Biju Menon as a lawyer and Lal as the main criminal are okay.

Song and Dance: 'Doma Kudithe', 'Maatante Maateraa', 'Aa Gaganamlo' drew whistles from the viewers and Ileana sizzled in the songs.

Last Word: The movie has an entertaining plot, but it doesn't take off from where it starts. The first half is clear and has a purpose, there are many gimmicks, but the second half is not established and no one knows why the events are happening. The problem with Telugu cinema now is that we have become immune to killings, so the writer has to increase the number of fights and deaths in each successive movie. This movie has its fair share, but nothing beats a clear storyline and an engaging climax, which the movie sadly lacks.
