Sanjay Dutt and Arshad WarsiOne of the most loved movies of our time, Munnabhai MBBS has the kind of repeat viewing value that few other movies can boast of. It's not surprising then, that when Rajkumar Hirani wanted to make a sequel and took a survey all over the country for an apt title, a majority said 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'! So he dropped his title 'Munnabhai Meets Mahatma Gandhi' and settled for the public vote instead.

This movie had expectations rocketing to the moon, but one is highly surprised to see that this movie is as good as the first one-it's not really a sequel, it just has Munna and his adorable sidekick Circuit and a host of other characters, some seen in the original like Boman Irani and Jimmy Shergill, playing completely different roles, and some new and brilliant finds. The safest thing for Hirani is that there can be no comparison with MBBS, as it has got nothing to do with it, but is fresh, new, hilarious, thought-provoking and has two of the most memorable characters in Indian film history-Munnabhai, Circuit, and their inimitable slang.

Plot Munnabhai is in love with a radio jockey, Jhanavi (Vidya Balan) and wins a radio contest on Mahatma Gandhi with the 'help' of a few professors. After the live radio chat, he tells her that he is a professor so she calls him home to give a lecture on the Mahatma. She lives with her grandfather and his friends in a house called 'Second Innings House'-where the name explains all. Stuck, he reads all about the Mahatma in the 5 days time that he has-and after that he gets a new friend-Gandhi, by his side whenever he calls for him. From Dadagiri, he shifts to 'Gandhigiri', after builder Lucky Singh who he works for gets 'Second Innings House' evacuated to present it to his daughter's would-be in-laws. To get it back he gets on to radio where he propagates Gandhigiri, and wins everyone's heart (yet again) in the bargain.

Story, Screenplay & Direction One of the best screenplays of this decade, the timing and the dialogues impeccable, and the sincerity in filmmaking just comes through the screen. This is what a great movie is all about. The complete package-cult characters, repeat viewing value like never before, a soft and clean romance, a simple social message and absolutely no preaching! What more can one ask for? Instead of getting into other technicalities, only one thing is to be said-the movie is good, and the filmmaker is excellent. Full marks to Hirani, and Vinod Chopra for encouraging good cinema with top entertainment value.

Vidya BalanPerformances Sanju Baba is like vintage wine-the older, the better. He is fantastic as Munnabhai, the best character he's ever played. Circuit could not have been played by anyone else except Arshad Warsi, and any praise for the duo is less. Boman Irani as Lucky Singh has not been utilized to his full potential, like Dr. Astana in MBBS. Jimmy Shergill in the short but sweet role is good, and Diya Mirza as Lucky's daughter passes off. The gang of oldies are golden. Balan is cute and mature at the same time. Saurabh Shukla as the pandit is good, as is Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Gandhi (Dilip Prabhawalkar) is fantastic-very underplayed and very real.

Music: Is a part of the movie, more conversational than anything else-but can't be heard in isolation.

And the verdict is.. You just cannot miss this movie-we are watching history in moviemaking happening right in front of us. Munnabhai is a classic. Gandhi, Munna and Circuit rock!
