Banner: Akshaya Films. Release Date: 31st May, 2007. Veduka-A celebration of love starring 'Nice Guy' Raja and 'Lucky Princess' Poonam Bajwa (that's what it says in the titles) is a mystery. No, not the regular kind of mystery. The mystery is where love was being celebrated in the entire movie.  Plot Srikar (Raja) is the 'Ramudu Manchi Baludu' types. He and his friends are tenants of Harini's family, consisting of her mother and grandfather. Harini is a prankster, a lively, vivacious girl who likes to fool men who act too smart. But she ends up making a 'Bakra' out of a ridiculous man who wears a mask, has a toy gun, an eyebrow piercing and loads of money-Subbarao. He leaves the country so Harini is safe till he is back. Srikar and Harini fall in love, but do not confess their feelings to each other. Srikar and Harini's love story is what the movie is about.Story, Screenplay and Direction The story is bland, and does not have anything that makes you want to wake up. The editing is bad and jerky, with dialogues being cut before the sentence ends. The dialogues themselves are no good. They are silly, long-winding and basically nothing interesting happens in the movie. There are separate tracks, unrelated to the main plot. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, Telangana Shakuntala and others used just to create some humor-which fails miserably. The only good points in the movie are the two main leads-Raja and Poonam Bajwa, whose characters are well-defined, Raja's friends and actor Naresh. The scene where Naresh (playing Raja's father) comes to Harini's home is good. The 'Coin' Temple, where you stick a coin to the wall to fulfill your wishes is the main element of the movie.  Dialogue of the Day: In an action sequence Raja says, 'Class ni class ga ne undanivvandi. Mass lo ki dimpithe!!' (followed by a punch, of course).The late Soundarya's photograph is used for a scene, as Srikar's mother. For a good one hour of the movie, we keep waiting for something to happen. When it does, it is just too predictable. 'Subbu-Subbarao Tambella' is supposed to be an eccentric villain while Ammu, Srikar's cousin is supposed to create some jealousy and rift. Nothing works, so we keep wondering where the conflict is-non-existent. Performances Raja looks good, acts well, but he'd do better to shed this 'Nice Guy' image. Good guys go to heaven, but bad guys go everywhere. That's true for cinema too-a little grey or some different characters will boost his career. No filmy background, no wealthy father/uncle/grandmother, it's a difficult journey. Poonam Bajwa justifies her character well. Robert Antony as Subbu fails to make the impact it should have. K. Vishwanath plays a role written for him. Naresh is good. Music and Dance Anoop Rubens is a promising talent, but still has a long way to go. Songs and picturizations are just about okay. Last Word Boring, inconsistent script. |
