Sonu Sood is back in the news after playing Maheshbabu's buddy in last year's first superhit 'Athadu'. He also featured in a full-length role in Nagarjuna's 'Super'. The tall Punjabi is now playing an important role in the NTR-Sameera Reddy starrer 'Ashok'. CineGoer.com caught up with him on Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Hotel Taj Banjara and had a brief interview with the model-turned-actor. Here are the excerpts.

Tell us something about your background.

I come from Punjab and I have done my schooling there. Later, I moved to Nagpur to do my Bachelors in Electronics Engineering. I did a few modelling jobs and then decided to act. My first film was in Tamil with Vijaykanth. Similarly, Telugu films happened to me. And then Bollywood films followed.

Do you have any friends in the Telugu film industry?

Yes, I do. I get along well with Nagarjuna and Puri Jagannath. It was Nagarjuna who gave me a break with 'Super'. I owe a lot to him. Just yesterday we met at his resto-lounge in Hyderabad, The Touch.

Do you have a favorite actor or actress that you look up to?

(Pat comes the reply) Mr. Bachchan. He stood as an inspiration for many of the upcoming artistes. I would consider myself lucky if I could achieve at least a part of what he achieved as an actor.

Who is your favorite co-star?

Rani Mukherjee. I know her since 'Yuva' in which we worked together so we are great friends and she is a very sweet girl to work with.

How was it working with Rajnikant in 'Chandramukhi'?

He is a great human being. I have some great memories working with him.

What are your current projects?

I am essaying an important role in the NTR-Sameera Reddy starrer 'Ashok'. NTR is a nice person to work with. I get along well with him.

He has also signed a Hollywood film titled Rock 'N' Meera.
How different is working in Tollywood as compared to Bollywood?

Bollywood was my first love, as it is the language my people could watch and enjoy. At the same time, however, it feels great working in Tollywood. I am still with the learning phase. I understand the language very well. But it will take some time for me to speak the language. South film industry has taught me a lot. I think the image of the south film industry is that of being organised. We do have people back in Mumbai who are extremely organised. But there is something else to be learned from the south film industry.

How do you feel about finding success in Tollywood?

It's all God's grace. I must have done some good in my previous birth and I'm reaping the benefits now. A lot needs to be done though.

What kind of roles are you looking forward to doing?

As an actor, I want to do everything. I am waiting for scripts that offer scope for acting.

Will you be doing more movies in other languages?

I have already done quite a few films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. For me, language is not a barrier at all. I am keen to work in other languages as well.

Tell us about your projects outside Tollywood?

I have signed a Hollywood film titled Rock 'N' Meera. Nandana Sen will play the female lead in the film. Shooting for the film will commence in March 2005 in the US of A. I have also signed a few interesting Bollywood films.

How do you find the people here? (In Hyderabad)

Everyone I've talked to has been really friendly and down-to-earth. I really honestly didn't expect it.
