An Interview With Srinu Vytla
Cinegoer.com catches up with successful director Srinu Vytla who directed blockbusters like Andarivadu, Venky, Anandam and Sontham. He shares his personal experiences and also talks about his forthcoming projects.
As a director, what kinds of movies do you like the most?
I personally like love stories with action backdrop. But the audiences' taste is far more important than the director's personal taste. It is the success formula.
What makes a director famous?
A director should be able to handle all types of films. Majority of the industry runs behind success. Irrespective of the talent of the director, the recognition comes through hit films. It is not correct to say that there is wastage of talent in failed attempts. I am confident that I can take up any kind of subject. That is why all my films are different from each other and not stereotyped.
As a talented young director how did you feel when you got a chance to direct Megastar Chiranjeevi?
All upcoming directors dream of directing Chiranjeevi and I am no exception. I never thought my dream would come true in such little time. I feel I am very lucky. I am indebted to Allu Aravind and Megastar Chiranjeevi for giving me this opportunity.
Are you happy with the success of 'Andarivadu'?
I am completely satisfied with the response to the film. We made a film packed with all kinds of entertainment. The film did not disappoint the fans of Chiranjeevi, though it did not reach our expectations.
What did you learn through your experience with 'Andarivadu'?
It is a great working for a big hero like Chiranjeevi. It is an unforgettable experience. Earlier, Srinu Vytla is a name known only to a few. But after Andarivadu emerged a hit, everyone knows me. It is thrilling.
You have projected Chiranjeevi in a new style and Raviteja in a new angle. How would you like to present Vishnu now?
I liked the body language and style of Vishnu in his first film and decided to do a film with him. Later Suryam released. He earned a good name with both these films. I am presenting him in a different angle. You will know better on seeing the movie.
Love stories have become common fare. How is this going to be different?
All love stories may be the same. But if the writer and director can present it in a novel way success automatically follows. The story line is simple. A lover cannot be successful just because he fell in love. To achieve it he also needs a lot of confidence coupled with tact. I would have done it after Venky but for Chiranjeevi's film. A new point and proper narration always brings success.
Now heroines are turning into glamour dolls. How about their characterization in your films?
It may be true to some extent but not in my case. You will see the importance given to the heroines in my films. Maheswari in Nee Kosam, Sneha in Venky and Tabu in Andarivadu, all these are important characters. The present film is love and action-oriented. Hence the heroine Genelia has plenty of scope for action.
How far is the director responsible for increasing the budget of a film?
Budget is decided based on the story of the film. There won’t be any problem as long as the budget is under control. I have always finished my films within the budget. My producers always give me a free hand. I respect the producers and their well-being. It is the responsibility of both the producer and the director to keep the budget under control.
What are your future plans?
Shooting of my latest film with Vishnuvardhan Babu is currently going on. I have two more films on hand. Once the stories are finalized, I will start working on the script.
