Kadhile Paadham The guitar strumming starts and sounds a bit like that of 'Rubaroo' of Rang De Basanti. The rest of the song however takes off on its own. It's a solo rendered by Shankar Mahadevan, with zestful lyric by Vanamali. The song stays soft throughout, with a subtle hint of an enthusiastic undertone where the instrumental and vocals both stay simple and therefore interesting. Nice start. ***
Naalo Nenena Hemachandra and Saindhavi sing this soulful duet, with Mani Sharma going easy on his keyboard and just delivering soft-solid tunes coupled with just the right kind of instrumental. Ramajogayya Sastry writes this pensive, romantic number. ***
Padhara Padhara Political, revolutionary, society, awakening, inspirational. These are the words that pop into mind when one hears this number, possibly a background score for a situation. Sastry's lyrics are rendered with much gusto by Ranjith and Murali. Not a car song or hummable in the least, but an okay score to highlight a situation. **.75
Mogindhi Je Ganta Shreya Ghosal renders this number which gives us a déjà vu of the Devdas songs that the then debutante crooned sweetly. The song is a saccharine as the vocals, and the tempo is super slow and like most of the numbers, very soft and mellow. Sastry has penned this in-love solo. ***
Banam Theme Music Murali, Ranjith, Naveen and Hanumantha Rao sing the chorus for this multi-faceted theme. It starts off melodiously and suddenly transforms into this dark, somber Padhara genre of number you expected it to be all along. The first two minutes are fine, but the sudden turn leaves the song nowhere. Not bad..but not a winner exactly. **.75
Last Word Kadhile Paadham and Naalo Nenena make the album worth picking up, while the rest of the compilation is not bad either. This side of Mani Sharma is refreshing and unpretentious and he stops playing with his keyboard and making music. Good vocals, simple instrumental and tunes, Banam's music is definitely an asset for the movie. Nothing blockbuster-ish here, but decent stuff.
