Ek Good Album
Ek Niranjan The title track starts off with a haunting, old-school tune and goes on to the quirky lyric by Ramjogayya Sastry. Ranjith renders the song with mucho attitude, sounding slightly tipsy, giving us a glimpse into the storyline-Mister All Alone with no one to speak of…instrumental is good, with some spunky strumming, electric and typical Mani beats. Interesting. ***.25
Gundello The tune and vocals (Hemachandra and Geetha Madhuri, perfect for this genre), true-blue retro with a weird classical sound is at complete odds with the instrumental involving electric guitar and techno. Routine in-love lyrics starting with 'Gundello Guitar Moginchave' by Sastry again makes this song easy on the ears and borderline dance number. Easy and breezy. ***
Sameera Karthik sings this solo about his lady love. Sounds like Spanish guitar, good sound-makes for some interesting instrumental, and definitely good vocals. Wish the composer would ease up on the keyboard playing a little bit. The latter part of the song gets better. Typical Puri stuff actually (Choopulto Guchi Guchi types). ***
Evaru Lerani An answer to the title track, here Malavika renders this soft and lovely number proclaiming her love. Bhaskarabhatla's simple lyric and the soft tune along with the good background makes the song sweet; not short, but no one's complaining. ***.25
Mahammari Kalyan Vasanth and Geetha Madhuri render this dance number, with heavy beats and Sharma playing with his keyboard just the way he likes. Bhaskarabhatla writes a lot about Superheroes, same goes for this song. The English chorus appears throughout the album, but is most active in this number. The composer has been dishing out this since Indra..time to move on. Not bad, just commonplace. **.75
Nartana Tara (A tribute to MJ) Thriller beats with lyrics by Viswa, the chorus and Nilayini in Telugu and Ranjith in English; all about MJ. Don't miss the trademark 'Woo-hoo'! ***.25
Last Word Ek Niranjan is one of the better albums out this season. Mani Sharma doesn't give his best yet, but doesn't disappoint at all. Any of the three good numbers are sure to crawl up the charts and will be the ones to watch out for in the movie.
