A father looks helplessly while a son lands behind bars for police go raiding a prostitute's home. The mother wipes beads of sweat on his forehead, not because he had worked hard and come home that night. He is found drunk and the heroine puts him in an auto sends him home. The doting mother is Sudha and father is Tanikella Bharani. Bharani is neither strict not mellowed. He is balancing in between giving a lecture to his son not to leave his girl friend. The reason friend is like a coach, they not only tell you where you go wrong but also guide you. Ahem, one gets a wrong signal for a moment, wondering if the father is still the son to latch onto a rich girl.
Well that is only a part of the story of Current. Current is meant for the current generation? Not really. The title here means that the lead pair despite their blow hot blow cold relationship can feel a 'under current' of love passing through but sadly the audience can sense it only in the beginning and the end.
The first half of the film is a drag, the second part is complicated and knotty and the director doesn't give the audience a single reason as to why they should sit and watch an over stretched story in which the hero and the heroine can't decide whether they are in love or out of love. Tanikella Bharani is given a confused role as well.
It is pathetic that heroes are given roles that have zilch value and are glorified to such an extent that artistes who play parents are made to look like dummies.
Sushanth has no goals in life and when he bumps into Sneha who is not interested in him, he woos her till she falls for him. Like climbing a wall, a flower pot falls off in the process, he bribes the kids to leave a balloon in the air, gets a chocolate cake and has bruises on his arm, he has hurt himself. Seeing the bruised arm Sneha falls in love.
When she wants to take him home to meet her dad, he is playing cricket and acts indifferent. He does mention why he acts indifferent but we are not convinced. She tries to change him but Sushanth doesn't want to change his carefree life style. Sneha now wants to loathe him and that's not possible, so she seeks his help and he does various strange things to create an aversion in her. This is perhaps the first time Sushanth does something seriously, and Sneha distances herself from him and agrees to marry the man her father has found for her. Meanwhile Sushanth begins to miss her and changes his attitude.
The finale is clichéd, the hero leaving the place and just when he gets into the moving train, Sneha in her wedding attire comes hunting for him. The film could have helped Sushanth if the script was simpler, his work is far more flexible but the debut movie was better.
For Sneha Ullal this is another routine role, she lacks the fire and spark. Brahmanandam's comedy falls flat, his 'jaffa gaadu' dialogue has appeared successively in the last few films starting with Gamyam. Few of the songs are good, technically it's passable. Bad dialogues, routine screenplay and inept direction mars Current. One could end up getting a short circuit.
