Sri Venkateswara Art Films' Thammudu, released on 15th July 1999, was 'Power Star' Pawan Kalyan's second straight silver jubilee hit (the first being SSC Arts' Tholiprema (1998)).
The film, the story of a carefree and wayward youth-turned-good guy Subbu, was produced by Burugapalli Sivarama Krishna, presented by Smt. Muneeswari and directed by PA Arun Prasad. Preeti Jhangiani and Aditi Govitrikar played the female leads.
It had music by Pawan Kalyan favorite Ramana Gogula (their first film together), lyrics by Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry-Chandrabose, cinematography by Madhu Ambat, dialogues by Chintapalli Ramana, art by Anand Sai and editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh.
Achyuth, Ali, Surya, Chandramohan and Mallikarjuna Rao were in the supporting cast.
Screened for four shows a day, the film completed 100 days in as many as 23 centres in the State and silver jubilee in 1 centre (Vijayawada-Yuvaraj-175), where it grossed a record Rs. 53,74,587. The film ran for 134 days at Sangam theatre (gross - Rs. 46,27,601.50) in Vizag and had a 140-day run at Sandhya 35mm, Hyderabad.
The film grossed a record Rs. 30,11,616 from Liberty in Guntur in its first 100 days. All the songs were a big hit.
